Dartmouth courtyard

January 2024

We have been here for six weeks, lifting the existing paving and adjusting levels to divide the space.

We are using the existing stone and paving, with some waste materials from local builders plus their blue circle cement bags (that prove very durable for soil movement and perfect shoulder weight when climbing a ladder). The soil has been exceptionally deep, so some creative ideas to spread the load for the walls and to minimise the small percentage of cement. All materials have to be carried in and out or fed down the shute through a pipe or on a sled. A mix of Devon limestone, basalt and Dartmouth Group red slate are being used for the wall.
